Independent, self-contained, and self-controlled, this Category A prisoner holds his emotions in check and avoids showing sentiment. Stubborn and not easily influenced, he dislikes argument, interference, and coercion. He exercises willpower and self-discipline over his emotions and impulses to the point of being inhibited. His feelings are not allowed expression, which makes him tense, frustrated, and anxious. However, he is easily stimulated and takes it badly if he loses money or position, and he can be cruel and inflexible.

He thinks and acts deliberately, not spontaneously, creating for himself a special image, and hides his true feelings behind this façade. He does not want his real personality to show, as he has a low opinion of himself. He does not acknowledge his inner desires and emotions and plays for safety by controlling them. Routine, order and precision make him feel more secure. He resists letting himself go, but by suppressing his true nature, he becomes tense, constricted, anxious, frustrated and discouraged. He fights a continuous battle against low spirits, and stifles his emotions.

Stubborn and unyielding, he is disinclined to adapt. He is strict and harsh on himself as well as on others. He has his own sense of justice and ethical behaviour, and is a law until himself. He has his own individual ideas about what is right and what is wrong, and is defiant, rebellious, and resistant toward the rules, traditions an authority of others. He sees life in terms of either domination or submission, and he feels he must dominate. If thwarted, he may become enraged and violent, as his pent up desires and emotions may explode. He believes the world to be a hostile place, so he must be hostile in return. Irritation, frustration, anxiety and pessimism lead to defensiveness. He feels resentment, tension and anger towards those who have had authority over him, including his parents. In order to decrease these feelings, he has become emotionally detached and uninvolved.
